First Announcement from JoAnn Anderson
We are planning a reunion for the descendents of Arthur Porter, Sr. and his wife Louise Marie Koebbel who brought our family to the United States. We have not have a reunion for this family for many years and would like to gather and renew acquaintances. The reunion will be held at the home of Darrell and JoAnn Anderson. ( I used to be JoAnn Gifford Richards.)
We would like to gather on Friday, the 15th and attend the new Rexburg Temple in honor of Arthur Porter Sr. who brought his family to Zion so that they could have the blessings of the Temple. After the Temple we will go to the Rexburg Cemetery and visit the graves of Arthur Porter Sr. and Jr. as well as other members of the family. We will have someone give a brief history of Arthur and Louise Porter and how they ended up in Rexburg.
Other activities that you could do by coming on Friday are:
- Float the Snake River from Warm River to Ashton
- Go fishing (Did you hear about the 27 pound, 37 inch brown trout that was caught in the Ashton Reservoir in November of 2007? It was a state of Idaho record fish, broke the record that had been set in 1981.)
- Drive to Sarilda (west of Ashton) to see the place where Arthur Porter Sr. homesteaded.
- Play games at JoAnn’s house. Darrell has built a huge swing set with a zip line. Volley ball and badminton and horseshoes and basketball are also available.
You could camp overnight by the river. If several were camping there it would be a lot of fun. Margaret Arnold and her family hold their family reunion at the river and really enjoy themselves. You need to camp at the river now before the Utah and California developers build houses there. We will have names of places where you could rent a camper for the weekend.
Please bring any family histories and pictures to share.
We will provide the food for the Saturday meal and you just need to bring a lot of money to pay for it.
If you will send ALL of your family information, I will get it on the computer. At the reunion you will be given a disc with as much family history, past and present as I can accumulate. David Baranowski is helping with this.
Please let your family members know about this so they can reserve these dates. Chuck and Linda Porter are in charge of this reunion so if you have any questions, call them. Their number is 208-356-6723. My number is 208-652-7392.
